Woman killed in crash on rural road near Columbus

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A woman was killed Wednesday morning in a two-vehicle crash in rural Platte County.

The crash happened around 7:35 a.m. at East 14th Avenue and 83rd Street, just northeast of Columbus.

The sheriff’s office said a Chevy Malibu, driven by a 36-year-old woman, was heading south when it was hit by a westbound Buick Enclave.

Both vehicles came to a stop in a field southwest of the intersection.

Two minors in the Buick exited the vehicle before it caught fire.  They were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

First responders removed the woman from the Chevy and taken to a hospital, where she later died.

Investigators later learned that seat belts were not being used in the Chevy.

An investigation is ongoing.
