Woman killed in Kearney house fire

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – State officials are investigating the cause of a deadly Sunday morning house fire in Kearney.

Around 3:30 a.m., the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department was sent to a house fire near B Avenue and 11th Street.

A Kearney police officer reported that heavy smoke was coming from the home.  It was unknown if anyone was inside.

When crews arrived, they started extinguishing flames and searched the home.

A woman was found inside and taken to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Once the flames were put out, the Nebraska State Fire Marshal was called to assist in the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing, but officials said the fire was accidental and caused by an “electrical event” outside of the home.
