Woman killed in northwest Lincoln trailer home fire is identified

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Police identified the woman who was killed Tuesday morning in a trailer home fire in northwest Lincoln.

Firefighters found 66-year-old Rose Swanson dead in the home near Northwest Sixth Street and Gaslight Lane around 8:30 a.m., according to police.

Lincoln Fire & Rescue crews quickly extinguished the fire inside the smoke-filled home, LFR spokeswoman MJ Lierman said.

It’s unknown what started the fire, and the investigation is ongoing.

But Lierman said Swanson was on an oxygen tank, which contributed to the fire.

“Oxygen-fueled fires burn really hot and really fast, so it burned itself pretty much in the room of origin,” Lierman said. “When the door was opened, that helped spread it to the doorway.”

Firefighters rescued five cats while extinguishing the blaze. They were given oxygen.

A sixth cat was later found in a closet, and all were turned over to Lincoln Animal Control.

The home — valued at around $100,000 — is a total loss, according to Lierman.  Around $25,000 in contents were also destroyed.
