Woman injured, teen arrested in northeast Lincoln stabbing
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A woman was seriously injured Thursday in a stabbing in northeast Lincoln.
It happened about 4 p.m. near 63rd Street and Lexington Avenue in the Bethany neighborhood.
Police said a 16-year-old boy and a 47-year-old woman got into an argument that turned physical.
The teenager then stabbed the woman once in the back, according to the Lincoln Police Department.
When officers arrived, a 15-year-old boy was tending to the woman’s wound.
Police said the three are related but didn’t give specifics as to how.
The victim was taken to a hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
After a brief standoff, the 16-year-old surrendered to police.
He was arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony and placed in the Lancaster County Youth Services Center.
Neighbors told Channel 8 they were surprised by the stabbing in their “usually quiet” neighborhood.
“I couldn’t believe it when I saw nine or ten police cars out here,” Norval Rogers said.
Rogers, who lives across the street from the family, said he thought they were “pretty nice people.”
“They’re friendly,” Rogers said. “The kids are extra friendly. They come over and help me once in a while in the yard and garden.”
