Woman thwarted theft attempt in Lincoln neighborhood with slushie throw, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Police are looking for a group of teens involved in an assault and theft in a Lincoln neighborhood Friday night.

Around 9:50 p.m., a group of teens accused a 33-year-old man of parking in a family member’s stall near 16th and D streets.

Police said the teens attacked the man and drove off in a white sedan with his wallet and phone.

About 20 minutes later, a 26-year-old woman was getting out of her car near 14th and Sumner streets when she was approached by three teens.

Police said the teens demanded that she hand over her belongings.

Instead, the woman threw a slushie at them and got back into her car, according to police.  The teens, who were spotted driving a Hyundai Sonata, drove off.

On Saturday morning, officers found the Hyundai – which was reported stolen in Valley – abandoned in a neighborhood near 56th and Van Dorn streets.

An investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to call Lincoln Police at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
