Woman transported after being pulled from car in creek near Greenwood

A woman is lucky to be alive after her car went off the road and landed upside down in a creek.

"The driver of the vehicle went toward the left side of the road, got caught up in the gravel, left the roadway, went over part of a bridge down into a creek where the vehicle came to rest on it’s top," said Sargent Michael Gummert.

The accident happened in Dee Creek near 202nd Street and Waverly Road outside of Greenwood.
The Nebraska State Patrol says the driver was underwater for at least an hour when a passerby saw the car and called 911.

"She’s very lucky, she found basically there’s an air pocket inside the vehicle where she was able to breathe until rescue crews arrived and got her out of the vehicle," Sgt. Gummert said.

The woman was transported to Bryan West Hospital in Lincoln with minor injuries.

NSP had to use a crane to get the vehicle out of the creek.
