Woman tried driving away during northeast Nebraska traffic stop, sheriff’s office says

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A woman tried driving away from Stanton County deputies during a traffic stop on Wednesday, the sheriff’s office says.
Around 6 p.m., a deputy pulled over a vehicle on Highway 24 near the Dollar General in Stanton for having expired tags.
During the traffic stop, the deputy found that Deann Karpowich, 57, didn’t have proof of insurance.
She also refused to cooperate with the deputy and tried to get back into her vehicle to drive away, the sheriff’s office said.
Eventually, additional deputies arrived and were able to take Karpowich into custody. She was arrested on suspicion of traffic offenses and obstructing a police officer.
The sheriff’s office said Karpowich has since been released after paying bail. Her court appearance is next month.
