Woman who was fatally shot after attacking Columbus police officer identified

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The woman who was fatally shot after attacking a Columbus police officer on Saturday has been identified by authorities.
Lauree Jankowski, 33, of Columbus, was fatally shot by a police officer after she attacked another officer with a knife, according to the Nebraska State Patrol.

Just before 5 p.m., officers with the Columbus Police Division were conducting an investigation near 30th Avenue and 13th Street.
During the investigation, Jankowski started attacking one of the officers, the state patrol said.
Another officer then shot Jankowski, according to the state patrol.
Officers rendered aid immediately, but Jankowski was pronounced dead at the scene.
The injured officer was taken to the Columbus Community Hospital and was released later that night.
The investigation is still ongoing. In accordance with Nebraska law, this will be a grand jury investigation.
