Woman who was taken to Lincoln funeral home while still alive has died
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A woman who was taken to a Lincoln funeral home while still alive died Monday.
Lancaster County Chief Deputy Ben Houchin said 74-year-old Constance Glantz died around 4 p.m.
Glantz, who was in hospice, was initially pronounced dead around 9:40 a.m. at The Mulberry at Waverly, a nursing home.
She was then taken to Butherus-Maser & Love Funeral Home in Lincoln.
Around 11:45 a.m., an employee laid her on a table to “start their process” but noticed that she was breathing, Houchin said.
The employee immediately called 911, and Lincoln Fire & Rescue responded to the funeral home.
Glantz was taken to a hospital, where she later died.
“I can’t imagine what her family has went through,” Houchin said. “And we are really, really sorry for them to have to do that.”
The funeral home said in a statement that it was proud of how the staff handled the situation.
“Our prayers go out to the family,” the mortuary said. “We thank Lincoln Fire & Rescue and the Lincoln Police Department for their quick response.”
Channel 8 reached out the nursing home for comment but hasn’t received a response.
Houchin said that the funeral home did nothing wrong and that its employees are cooperating.
He said deputies have not yet interviewed everyone involved, so the investigation is ongoing.
An autopsy was scheduled to be conducted on Tuesday.
