Working our way toward another sultry, summer weekend
A very comfortable day we have ahead of us, especially counting on temperatures falling to the lower 60s during the early morning hours. We’ll see more filtered sunshine again today from high clouds moving in with a cluster of showers and thunderstorms trying to hold together.
Most of that activity is expected to lose forcing as it continues east but can’t rule out some light showers across far southeast Nebraska through the morning.
The forecast has a bit of a “rinse and repeat” feel to it as severe potential remains off to the west for another evening. Thursday evening, southwest Nebraska is included in a Slight (Level 2 of 5) risk for mainly damaging wind and some hail. This is an update since the morning show.
One of the latest versions of Stormcast this morning keeps most of those stronger thunderstorms in the southwest corner, closer to Imperial and McCook tonight.
But we’re in for a swift kick back to summer this weekend. An upper-level ridge will build and amplify to produce some hotter days both Saturday and Sunday.
Heck, the humidity will come with the heat as well over the weekend. We’ll quickly go from heat index values in the 80s to the lower 100s. Don’t let this change catch you off guard with many opportunities for outdoor plans at this time of year!
One of those opportunities is the Nebraska State Fair in Grand Island. Grand Island will also experience the heat with temperatures in the middle and upper 90s Saturday and Sunday.
These days of heat won’t be long lived. Temperatures look to cool down to about the upper 80s by Tuesday.
