Relay for Life returns to Lincoln, raises $26,000 for cancer research

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Relay for Life returned to Lincoln this Friday, raising more than $26,000.

The event was at Lincoln Northwest High School, and attendees weren’t just walking.

There was also live music, a dinner dedicated to cancer survivors, a silent auction and a luminaria ceremony.

Every year, there are more than 2,500 relay events across the country.

The American Cancer Society says this is all part of its mission to fight for a world without cancer.

It says donations help fund groundbreaking cancer research, patient care programs and more.

The nonprofit has invested $5 billion into research since 1946.

And it’s helped more than 3 million patients over the last decade alone.

Right now, there are more than 1.5 million volunteers nationwide, attacking the disease from every angle.
