LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Cornhusker State Games finished their final set of competitions this weekend, and wrestling wrapped up the festivities on Sunday morning.

The games have been around since 1988.

Wrestling was one of the original featured sports when it started, and has remained a staple since then.

There are multiple age divisions, with competitors ranging from young adults trying to improve their skills to 30-year-olds who haven’t wrestled since high school competitions.

The competition took place at Pius X High School in Lincoln.

Many participants noted how special the wrestling community in Lincoln is, as well as the connection between families.

“It is just a great family sport,” said David Charroin, the wrestling director at the Cornhusker State Games. “We have dads and sons, so they actually kind of switch roles over this weekend; dads are getting coached by their sons so it’s just a great family bonding experience.”

Wrestling, along with karate, archery and many other sports and activities came together to create a competitive environment.
