Wrong-way driver accused of 5th DUI after going past trooper near Nebraska City

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man was arrested Tuesday after authorities say he drove past a Nebraska trooper — in the wrong lane.

A trooper was heading east on Highway 2 near Nebraska City when a wrong-way driver went past them.

The trooper turned around and started chasing after the vehicle, according to the Nebraska State Patrol.

The vehicle, driven by 45-year-old Khamis Pitiya, continued west in the eastbound lanes for about a mile.

Eventually, Pitiya pulled into a driveway near Steinhart Park Road.

He was taken into custody shortly after, the patrol said.

Pitiya was arrested on suspicion of several charges, including driving under the influence and willful reckless driving.

The patrol said Pitiya has four prior DUI convictions.
