WWII Pilot’s remains coming home to Beatrice after more than six decades

He died fighting for our freedoms, and this morning, a military agency says that the correct remains of a WWII Veteran from Gage County are being returned for burial.
WWII Pilot, Richard Lane was killed when his aircraft was shot down in Austria.
Lane was co-piloting a B-17 Bomber, when it was hit by anti-aircraft fire and crashed on Dec. 27th 1944.
His remains were misidentified in 1946.
They underwent DNA testing and were able to be positively identify Lane.
Now he’s coming home.
A funeral with military honors is set for this Thursday near Beatrice.
