YMCA of Lincoln hosts annual Turkey Trot in new downtown location
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The YMCA of Lincoln is hosting its 15th annual Turkey Trot at the Railyard in downtown Lincoln on Thursday.
This will be the first year the race is held at the Railyard. It was previously held in south Lincoln.
Karla Hudson, associate executive director of the Cooper YMCA, said the race relocation will accommodate more participants.
“The last couple of years have been continuing to grow, we were at 1,400 last year and we’re already seeing over 1,700 this year,” Hudson said. “I think there’s a lot of excitement about a new venue and new space.”
Funds raised from this year’s trot will go towards the YMCA’s annual campaign to provide membership assistance to families.
The one-mile run will begin at 8:00 a.m. and the 5K race will begin at 8:30 a.m.
There will also be a food drive at the event tomorrow. You can also drop off canned goods at the Cooper YMCA.
Hudson said both running and walking are welcome tomorrow, and strollers are permitted.
