Yogurtini on O Street hosting event to help fight breast cancer

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and the Yogurtini near 48th and O streets is hosting a Dine Out to Fight Breast Cancer fundraiser on Monday.

The event will go from 6 to 9 p.m., and 15% of the proceeds during that time will be donated to Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Nebraska.

Lisa McClung, a staff partner with the organization, said it’s important that people are educated on what signs to look for, when and where to get a mammogram, and how to self-test for breast cancer.

“I get to work with a lot of survivors, and people that have been impacted personally by breast cancer,” she said. “My grandmother is a breast cancer survivor.”

Since 1989, the mortality rate for breast cancer has declined by 43%, according to the American Cancer Society.

McClung said support for more research and patient services will keep bringing that number down.

“Every time that we do grants for research, we have an opportunity to come up with new treatments, new drugs that can help people live a longer life with breast cancer.”
