York man found guilty of leading law enforcement on chase with kids in back seat

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A York man who had two kids on board while he fled from law enforcement has taken a plea deal.
Randy Kermoade, 37, pleaded no contest Tuesday to misdemeanor flight to avoid arrest and two counts of misdemeanor child abuse.
All three charges were originally felonies.
Kermoade also admitted to driving under a suspended license and not having proof of insurance.
On June 8, a sergeant with the York County Sheriff’s Office tried to pull over an SUV for traffic violations.
But Kermoade led the sergeant on a chase across York, court documents say, crossing the center line and blowing through a stop sign.
He came to a stop at an apartment complex, where the sergeant drew his gun and arrested him, according to an affidavit.
Two children were in the back seat of the SUV, and authorities said neither were wearing a seat belt.
Kermoade is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 23.
