Investigators said a red 2011 Buick Enclave — driven by a 69-year-old Lincoln woman — was on SW 23rd Street preparing to turn left when she heard a motorcycle speeding.
According to LPD, she started to turn left when she saw the motorcycle’s headlight crest the hill.
LPD said the woman stopped the SUV, and the 17-year-old rider laid down his blue 2019 Yamaha bike.
He slid more than 100 feet and collided with the driver’s side door of the SUV, according to LPD.
LPD said the bike slid nearly 400 feet before coming to a stop.
The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet, and speed is believed to be a factor in the crash, LPD said.
The teen was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he died several hours after the crash.
LPD said the motorcyclist’s identity is being withheld pending notification to the family.
The investigation of the crash is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call LPD at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
