A local school broke ground on a 1.8 million dollar addition today.

The new space at Lincoln Christian School will be dedicated solely to science and technology.

Officials say the expansion is needed to keep up with their growing enrollment.

Students, educators, parents and even some alum came together to see the ground–breaking of Lincoln Christian School’s new 1.8 million dollar expansion Friday morning.

The new building will focus on science and technology… holding 2 new science labs, 3 classrooms and 2 other common areas.

"Right now we’re using pretty much every room that we have in the facility, and we’re getting to the point where we need more room," says interim superintendent, Rod Zach.

Students of all grades are excited about the new building, including 2nd grader Kelsey, who says she needs to learn science to become a nurse one day.

Kelsey says, "in surgeries and things there’s a lot of things going on and science can help you figure some of that stuff out."

And senior, Elijah, adds, although he’ll be graduated… and hopefully attending UNL by the time the new addition is finished… he hopes it will further push the school’s already high standards for science and technology.

"Our science program has already been great here, and this will just further it. I’m excited to see how it goes,” adds the senior.

School officials say funding for the project came largely from donations.

The new addition should be done and ready for students by the start of next school year.
