2022 is on track to be deadliest of recent years on Nebraska roads

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Despite July traffic fatalities declining in 2022, this year’s total so far remains higher than the past four years, the Nebraska Department of Transportation says.

July saw 20 fatalities in 19 crashes across Nebraska.  Last year, there were 21 fatalities during July.

Of the 13 passengers killed, eight were not using seat belts, three were using seat belts and two were listed as unknown.

In addition to the vehicle fatalities, there were four motorcycle and three pedestrian fatalities.

A plurality of the crashes took place on highways, four were on the interstate and seven were on local roads.

Through July, there were 146 traffic fatalities in Nebraska, up from an average of 129 during the same time in 2018-2021.
