Man loses $210,000 in online scam, Lincoln Police say
The man was scammed after a pop-up appeared on the victim's computer saying his bank account had been "hacked".

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A 74-year-old man lost $210,000 in an online scam, Lincoln Police say.
After the victim turned on his computer, a pop-up appeared saying that his bank account had been “hacked”. The popup also showed a number for him to call, according to Lincoln Police.
The victim called the number and was asked to grant remote access to the scammer he was speaking to. They told the victim to make a new bank account and transfer $210,000 into the new account, Lincoln Police say.
Afterward, the victim was told not to discuss the transfer with anyone. The scammer had access to the new bank account and took all of the money.
A family member reported the scam to Lincoln Police on Sunday.
The investigation is currently ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call Lincoln Police at 402-441-6000.
Lincoln Police say if anyone receives a similar message to contact their financial institution for verification or guidance.
