WATCH: Nebraska state trooper has close call with semi on I-80
No one was injured in the crash that totaled the trooper's patrol vehicle, NSP says.
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A close call was caught on a Nebraska State Patrol trooper’s dashcam as a semitrailer lost control and struck his vehicle in December.
NSP released the video of the crash Thursday on social media. The patrol said it took a while to get the video from the vehicle because it had been destroyed.
Emergency crews had responded to a crash near Elm Creek on Interstate 80. The crash involved a semi that had lost control, crossed the median and struck another semi and a Chevy Traverse, according to the patrol.
While responding to that crash, a trooper parked in the median and another semi struck his vehicle. The patrol vehicle was totaled, NSP said.
The trooper and the semi driver were not injured. The crash blocked both directions of travel on I-80 for about three hours, according to the patrol.
“We are extremely thankful our trooper was not injured. This incident could have been tragic,” said Col. John Bolduc, superintendent of the patrol. “This is a prime example of why we plead with motorists to slow down in winter driving conditions.”
