Lincoln man loses $7,000 in robocall scam

Lincoln police is warning people to be on the look out for scams, especially in the form of a robocall.

A 63 year-old-man reported that he received a robocall advising him his PC support was being changed and that he would be refunded $299 but he needed to call the company.

The victim had signed up for a computer monitoring service and believed the call was from that company.

He called the number provided and was told the company was going out of business and they needed his bank account information to provide him a refund.

He provided his bank information and allowed remote access to his computer.

He was told the company accidentally put too much money into his account by mistake and that he needed to purchase gift cards to refund the money.

The victim purchased thousands of dollars in gift cards from Home Depot and Best Buy and provided the card number to the scammer.

The victim was told a second deposit was made to his account by mistake and he needed to purchase additional gift cards.

The victim suffered a loss of $7,000.
