Barrington elementary school principal receives ‘well deserved’ recognition

BARRINGTON, R.I. (WLNE) — A Barrington school elementary principal received “well deserved” recognition on Thursday.

Sowams School Principal Jim Callahan was named Rhode Island’s Elementary Principal of the Year.

The announcement was made during a surprise assembly.

Superintendent Michael Messore said the annual award is given to those who are recognized as “an outstanding school leader and who has succeeded in providing high-quality learning opportunities for his students.”

Callahan will now be considered as the National Elementary School Principal of the Year.
