WASHINGTON D.C. (WLNE) — Bristol County law enforcement members traveled to Washington DC this week to honor three officers who passed away from COVID 19.
As part of National Police Week, law enforcement members from across the country traveled to the nation’s capital and Thursday took to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial to honor those who lost their lives in the line of duty.
This year, three officers from Bristol County were memorialized and added to the memorial.
Taunton Patrolman John Borges, Norton Det. Sgt. Stephen Desfosses and New Bedford Sgt. Michael Cassidy all passed away from the virus within four months of each other between December of 2020 and April of 2021.
Members from several agencies in Bristol County, including Sheriff Tom Hodgson honored the three Thursday.
“Sadly this year there are three names from Bristol County being added to the Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington DC. I’m here to support the New Bedford, Taunton and Norton Police Departments and the families of the fallen officers,” Hodgson said in a tweet.
National Police Week started May 11 and runs until May 17.
