It’s been five years since state volleyball was in Lincoln. The Pinnacle Bank Arena and other venues are welcoming thousands of high school volleyball fans through Saturday. This is the first time the arena is hosting the games. The last four years the volleyball tournament was in Grand Island.
In 2013, the Nebraska School Activities Association announced Lincoln had won the bid to host the tournament from 2014 to 2017. There’s been a lot of excitement around the change because of all the development in the West Haymarket.
We caught up with fans to get their reaction on the new changes.
Dale Kistaitis of Lincoln Northstar says it’s a great idea, “Being able to use the new arena as well as The Devaney where Nebraska plays. I think every girl as they grow up wants to play where the Huskers play. So, I think it’s going to turn out to be a great year.”David Woodman traveled from Omaha to cheer for Skutt Catholic, “Grand Island was a great host, was a great venue. The Heartland was an awesome place to play.We like playing here. The Atmosphere in his place is cozy, it’s tight and lots of good spirit from all the teams.”
The Convention and Visitors Bureau says they expect the tournament to bring in 3-4 million dollars in tourism money. That will be from hotels and restaurants.
