17 events to check out in Nebraska this weekend
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — This weekend is a little chillier, but it’s reminding us that the holidays are right around the corner.
There are markets and craft shows across the state where you can buy gifts for everyone on your list.

OMAHA AREA:
Autumn Festival – All weekend
Hundreds of the nation’s finest artists and crafters will display and sell their handcrafted works. The event is consistently ranked in the top 100 arts and crafts shows by the Country by Sunshine Artist Magazine. There will be an hourly gift certificate winner, plenty of food and drinks, lots of family fun and free parking. Tickets are $10.

Benson First Friday – Friday, 5 p.m.
Come out for this once-a-month gathering of the neighborhood artists and businesses. Each event has a map to keep you to the different festivities, from live performances and art shows to drink and food specials, throughout the historic neighborhood.

‘X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X‘ – All weekend, 7:30-10:30 p.m.
In its Midwest premiere, Anthony and Thulani Davis’ distinctly American opera “X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X,” will be directed by Robert O’Hara. This epic new production will perform for Omaha audiences first before traveling to The Met in 2023. Tickets are for sale online.

LINCOLN:
Crash Crew Art Show of the Year – Friday, 5-8 p.m.
The Crash Crew Art Group is having the art event of the year at the Resonator Gallery in the Turbine Flats. The group is run by local artists who strive to bring a new direction and excitement to the Lincoln community. The show will consist of never-before-seen photography, paintings, mixed media, ceramics, sculptures and wood art.

Gifted: Annual Holiday Show – Friday, 5 p.m.
Gifted is sure to have something unique for everyone on your list, including handmade pottery, holiday ornaments, jewelry and even creative toys for the little ones. Your purchase directly supports featured artists and the programs of the Lux Center for the Arts. Items will be available to take home right on the spot, and gift-wrapping is free with each purchase. This exhibit will be open until Dec. 30.

If you’re looking for a great deal or a rare find, Lincoln’s only recurring flea market is the place to be.

Kids Who Create: Thanksgiving Mosaic – Saturday, 9:30-11:30 a.m.
Be inspired by the uniqueness of mosaic art. The artists will be incorporating painted beans into a Thanksgiving-themed mosaic. Tickets are $45.

Holiday Harvest Market – Sunday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This farmers market brings the community and local producers together for a festival celebrating local food and late-season harvests. Come shop for your holiday feasts and stock up for the winter. With dozens of local farmers and producers participating, you can expect an abundance of locally grown produce and farm products.

WAYNE:
A Sweet Taste of Wayne – Friday, 6-7:30 p.m.
A $5 entry fee will allow you to taste professional and amateur bite-sized desserts to your heart’s content. Entry fees will be divided into prize money for the winners. The remaining funds will go to the Friends of the Library for the library addition project.

ASHLAND:
Holiday Craft Festival – Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Take in a holiday festival at Ashland-Greenwood High School. Come find the perfect gifts, support small businesses and enjoy holiday products from over 50 vendors. Admission is free will donation. All proceeds go to the AG Spirit Squad Booster.

Veterans Day Parade – Saturday, 10 a.m.
All Veterans are welcome to walk or ride in the parade. Businesses and individuals are encouraged to show support of our past and current veterans by building a parade entry or to come downtown to cheer the veterans on as they go by. This is a free community event.

Kearney Art Gala – Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Kearney Artists Guild with the Merryman Performing Arts Center presents the 1st Annual Art Gala! Twenty local artists and artisans will have their work for sale for holiday gifts, or for your home or office. Come join the Kearney Artists Guild and see all the work from these talented artists. NORTH PLATTE AREA:
Family Skate Night – Friday, 6:30-9:30 p.m.
Join Maranatha Camp & Retreat Center at Family Skate Night. Don’t have skates? No worries. The camp is stocked with sizes from toddler clip-ons to men’s 13. It also has a small number of skate trainers available. Don’t want to skate? Check out the 30-foot climbing wall, bouncy castle, games and a large space for kids to run around and play. Refreshments are available for purchase. $8 per person ages 5 and up. Ages 4 and under are free.
