The state is 145 years old.
Some Lincoln elementary students got to celebrate it in a special way.
Meadowlane grade schoolers got a chance to take a break from spelling and math to wish Nebraska a happy birthday with the help from a distinguished guest.
It's March 1st, and it's time to celebrate a bunch of monumentous birthdays… teenage phenom Justin Beiber, movie director Ron Howard, and most importantly… the best state in our union… Nebraska.
And, a bunch of grade schoolers got to celebrate with the governor.
“I always have fun with them because we ask a lot of questions. They share a lot with me. They do a lot of homework to get prepared for my visit and it's a good education experience for them,” says Governor Dave Heineman.
Holli Richardson's class wrote letters to Governor Heineman asking to join them for the celebration. They had plenty of questions for the governor and got to share cake with him.
“I thinks its awesome, because Nebraska is a good state.”
Not only do the kids appreciate our wonderful state, but also, the people that make it that way.
“One of the students afterwards told me Nebraska is a great place to live because we're all nice to each other. I think that sums it up pretty well.”
Governor Heineman also celebrated with Meadow lane last year. The governor says he enjoys visiting grade schools because they're so important for Nebraska's future birthdays.
