Regents approve initial contract for massive Memorial Stadium renovation
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Football fans have reason to celebrate.
The Board of Regents approved an initial contract on Friday for the hotly anticipated Memorial Stadium renovation.
Engineering company HDR will conduct conceptual planning and design for a flat fee of $1.1 million.
The project as a whole is expected to cost between $200 million and $700 million.
The massive project comes as the venue is celebrating its 100th anniversary.
Officials say they want to make the stadium more fan-friendly for decades to come.
Even though they are only in the initial phase, they have some changes in mind.
“Change in seating, concessions, the access points in and around the stadium, security,” said Ted Carter, president of the University of Nebraska.
Nebraska is also set to open a $160 million football facility this year.
The size of its weight room alone will roughly double.
It will also bring the different disciplines the team relies on under one roof.
That includes sports psychology, sports medicine and the Nebraska Athletic Performance Lab.
