A terminal at Eppley Airfield in Omaha has reopened after being evacuated and shut down when a suspicious item was spotted in a piece of luggage.

The TSA says it called for the evacuation of the airport's north terminal around noon Wednesday after workers found a suspicious item in a carry-on bag.

The unidentified item was found through x-ray screening. Omaha Police Department spokesman Jake Bettin says the department's bomb squad was called to the airport early Wednesday afternoon. The TSA says the bomb squad will remove the item for examination.

Screening operations continued at the airport's south terminal, but crowds of travelers could be seen gathering outside the airport's north terminal more than an hour after the officials called for the evacuation. The airport's website indicates some flights in and out of the airport have been delayed.
