A Lincoln group protested against detention facilities housing illegal immigrants

Protestors stood outside Congressman Jeff Fortenberry’s office Tuesday evening, asking him to take action toward the conditions of the facilities holding migrant children and families on the southern border.
“We hope that he can go back to Washington D.C. and do whatever he can with his other representatives and state senators, to stop the process of separating families,” Stand In for Lincoln, Joni Gebhard said.
“Regardless of political affiliation, this should keep us awake at night, this should drive us to the streets, this should be totally intolerable to our nations representatives,” Stand In for Lincoln, Sarah Thomas said.
Crowds chanting, ‘close the camps’ didn’t just happen in Lincoln but nationwide like in New York City and Washington D.C.
Congressman Jeff Fortenberry released a statement:
“Persons in our community are welcome to exercise their first amendment rights. it’s important to note that we just passed a bill in congress to help the children, and stop the illegal activity at the border.”
The protest in Lincoln was organized by a new organization called Stand In for Lincoln.
President Donald Trump signed a bill on Monday that provides $4.6 billion in emergency funding for the border.
Other constituents who did not attend the rally have posted on our social media that blocking efforts to end illegal immigration into the U.S. would solve more problems.
