Pints For Prostate Event

Advance Medical Imaging joined with Urologist PC and Zipline Beer Hall to bring men together and spark conversation about prostate cancer.
Like any medical information, prostate cancer can often be hard for men to discuss, but that doesn’t take away the importance of a screening.
That’s why Pints for Prostate made it’s way to Lincoln.
“So important. That’s really why we had an event like this is because sometimes men don’t want to talk about having screenings and things like that so we wanted them to become aware and the more they learn about it and how easy some of these screenings are,” Sharice Kucera said.
Although completely a–symptomatic, prostate cancer is more commonly diagnosed than you’d think.
“Prostate cancer is the most common non-skin cancer malignancy diagnosed in men in the United States. About 1 in 9 men or about 1 in 8 men are diagnosed in their lifetime, so that’s about 12%,” Tara Kirkpatrick said.
Prostate cancer is generally found in older men aged 50 and up. Kirkpatrick urges men at average risk to begin screening at age 50 to 55.
For men with a higher risk, that age is sooner.
“men that have a really strong family history of prostate cancer, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, we recommend that they start at age 40 because they are at higher risk.”
The event was held at Zipline Beer Hall, where proceeds from the beer purchases went to the non-profit pints for prostate and gave men the chance to sign up for a free P.S.A. test.
“For screening we recommend a blood test called a P.S.A. or prostate specific antigen and its just a simple blood test that your doctor can do very easy,” Kirkpatrick said.
