5,000 UNL students start moving into dorms

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – More than 5,000 students and their families are expected to descend upon the Capital City this week.

Move-in at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln started Monday.

The three-day event is when all the new and returning students living in the residence halls have a chance to move in.

With all of those people coming in, it’s important that everything moves smoothly. The staff and volunteers who help have it down to a science.

It starts with communication with the students and includes a partnership with a moving company.

But it also comes down to everybody working together.

“I just think everybody that’s wearing an ‘N’ today is tugging on the rope, making sure that it’s smooth as possible for all students,” said Lucas Novotny, executive director of housing and dining at UNL. “The secret sauce is a smile, I think.”

When students arrive, they first have to visit the Devaney Center to sign in and get their keys.

UNL recommends using Innovation Campus’ Transformation Drive to avoid cross traffic exiting the complex.

There is construction on Salt Creek Roadway and Antelope Valley Parkway, so an alternate route to the Devaney Center may be necessary.
