Nebraska sheriff’s office ‘applauds’ woman who pulled gun on strangers trying to buy chickens

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Nebraska authorities are applauding a woman who scared off strangers with a gun after they repeatedly asked to buy her chickens.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said this all started on Wednesday around 5:20 p.m.
A Hershey woman reported that a newer white Cadillac Escalade or Chevrolet Suburban pulled into her driveway and started honking.
She said a Middle Eastern or Indian woman got out and knocked on her door.
When the homeowner answered, the stranger grabbed her hand and, in broken English, asked her to speak with her husband.
Instead, the homeowner got a pistol and put it in her pocket.
She eventually went outside and talked to the husband, who said they wanted to buy some chickens.
The homeowner explained that they weren’t for sale, but the husband persisted and even flashed money, the sheriff’s office said.
She then spotted a large machete in the couple’s vehicle and pulled out her pistol.
The couple took off west on Highway 30 while the homeowner called authorities, leading to a large search of the area.
Deputies and the Nebraska State Patrol were unable to find the couple.
The sheriff’s office said it might have been “an entirely innocent incident” confused by language and cultural differences.
“However, the Sheriff’s Office applauds the female homeowner for using her 2nd Amendment Right to protect herself, family, and property,” it said in a press release.
