6th graders designed a donut to be featured at Hurts Donut in Lincoln

Students in the 6th-grade class at Moore Middle School worked in different teams as they made different designs of donuts with the goal to be sold at Hurts Donuts in Lincoln.

“The first place donut was completely original it was a donut cut in half put together on the back side and made into a butterfly so that was very original very outside the box thinking,” Trent Vargason Hurts Donut Owner said.

All of the students in this class designed a donut, and it was first to taste tested by their school resource officer and was it was given to Trent of Hurts Donut to test where he picked the winner.

For the winners coming together to make this butterfly donut was a lot of fun to make.

“When I was little I use to like to catch butterflies so I thought it would be cool just to make it unique and turn it around I guess,” Katelyn Obuchowski a 6th grader said.

“And we thought of like using bright colors and dark colors like day and night,” Ruby Sitzman a 6th grader added.

For their teacher Mrs. O, who thought of this whole deal the students who were involved were into the idea from the first moment.

“They were super excited the worked on teamwork and collaborating with each other,” Amber Oligmueller 6th grade teacher said.

While they all got to make donuts the finished product for the teacher was much more.

“It’s about the teamwork and imagination and creativity the donut was just per that was the perk,” Oligmueller said.

If you visit Hurts Donuts on March 24th you can try their donuts, and they’re making more, all of the proceeds will go towards Moore Middle School.
