E. coli detected in central Nebraska lake, health officials confirm

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Two Rivers Public Health Department on Thursday said E. coli was detected in Johnson Lake.

According to samples taken from the lake on Monday, officials said the bacteria levels are high enough to warrant an alert.

Considering the more rapid changes in bacterial conditions, signs are not posted around the lake with these higher levels.

The health department said they want people to be aware of beach conditions and use their own judgment about whether to use a listed water body.

Health officials said lake-goers should avoid situations that could cause them to swallow lake water, shower after being in the lake, and wash their hands before eating if they were in contact with the lake water.
