Lincoln biker community shows support for crash victim

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Within an hour of a motorcycle crash on Sunday night, members of the local biker community arrived at the scene.

The motorcyclist was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

The group that arrived said they did not know who the biker was but still wanted to come support him.

“I don’t know who it is just yet, but I am praying for him, and I hope he’s all right and that he pulls through,” said Jonathan Johnson, a local biker.

Crashes such as this raise awareness to how to avoid accidents when sharing the road with a motorcyclist.

“You have to give plenty of space, and we recommend at a minimum of three to five seconds between you and the motorcyclist in front of you,” said John Lefler Jr., the executive director of the Nebraska Safety Council.

He said it is especially important for young drivers to be aware of motorcyclists on the road.

“While the majority of motorists understand the unique nature of riding on a motorcycle, there’s a lot of young drivers that maybe don’t understand the maneuverability or lack thereof a motorcycle,” Lefler said.

Both motorcyclists and motorists have a responsibility to drive safely, and extra caution is always recommended.
