Aspiring Heroes Event raises hundreds of dollars for police memorial and a local non-profit

At the Christ Lutheran Church, hundreds of Lincolnites came out for the 1st annual Aspiring Heroes Event.

They raised money for a memorial toward fallen police officers and the Mental Health Association who help reacclimate incarcerated inmates back into society.

They were raising money through different raffles, and silent auctions which included a signed Husker’s baseball from Darin Erstad and a signed football from Scott Frost.

One of the many things that the Mental Health Association helps fund is R.E.A.L, which stands for respond, empower, advocate, and listen.

A part of the R.E.A.L program is where former inmates help released inmates get a job or a place to stay with peer support.

“Providing peer support and being advocates for people in the community isn’t just a job it’s a lifestyle that we live by and to home support when you don’t feel like you have that support is really important to ourselves and the people we work within the community,” Taisa Brumagen a Peer Support Specialist said.

The other 25% of the funds that are raised through this event goes to a planned memorial dedicated to fallen police officers in Lancaster County.

“Honoring all of the law enforcement officers that have fallen cause ultimately whenever we sign-up for this job you never know what’s going to happen and it’s just memorializing them and make sure that everyone to show the community that they’re gone through and have the ultimate sacrifice,” Amanda May a Deputy with the Lancaster County Sheriff’s office said.
