Goodbye Star Ship 9
It was a sad goodbye on the last night for the Star Ship 9 in downtown Lincoln Sunday night.
The discount movie theatre is being demolished to make way for a parking garage and high-rise near 13th and 'Q' Streets.
The theatre first opened in 1992 and has shown second-run movies.
Over the years, admission has stayed at two dollars, but the rapid release of DVDs is driving theatres like the Star Ship 9 out of business. Officials say attendance has dropped 50 percent over the past 5 years.
The Douglas Theatre Company hasn't decided whether or not to open a new second-run theatre in Lincoln.
