California man sentenced to five years in prison for shipping marijuana to Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A California man will spend five years in federal prison for shipping over 200 pounds of marijuana to Nebraska.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office said Shawn Thomas, 34, was sentenced Wednesday for conspiracy to distribute 50 kilograms or more of marijuana.
From October 2018 to December 2020, Thomas was shipping marijuana from Sacramento, California, to Omaha.
The attorney’s office said the shipments were made via the U.S. Postal Service and commercial shipping services, such as FedEx.
On Dec. 18, 2020, authorities seized a 22.5-pound box of marijuana from a home in Omaha.
Thomas and three other people were inside the home, the attorney’s office said.
Investigators reviewed FedEx shipping records and cellphone messages and learned that Thomas had mailed the packages.
He sent at least 220.4 pounds of marijuana to Nebraska, according to the attorney’s office.
After his release from prison, Thomas will serve a three-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
Thomas’ three co-defendants have all since been sentenced.
