Firearm and drugs lead to felony arrest in northeast Nebraska
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Stanton County Sheriff’s office stopped a vehicle for speeding Monday 0n Highway 275 near Norfolk.
Deputies could smell marijuana coming from inside the vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office.
After a search, they found a stolen loaded handgun in the waistband of 18-year-old Karter Ewing of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Ewing was arrested on suspicion of theft by receiving and possession of a stolen firearm.
The driver, 18-year-old Paul Dahl Jr. of Sioux Falls, was cited on suspicion of speeding, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Authorities said the handgun was reported stolen from a Sioux Falls home last month. Deputies also found a loaded rifle inside the vehicle.
This was the second teenager caught with a loaded handgun during a drug arrest in the past week in Stanton County, according to the sheriff’s office.
“This is just another dangerous example of our feel-good laws passed by the legislature in regard to the carrying of concealed weapons,” Sheriff Mike Unger said in a press release. “This is going to lead to people getting killed and puts law enforcement in a no-win situation.”
