Anthony Zappa’s Parent’s Speak Out
The parents of the man sentenced to life in prison for kidnapping a Kearney girl last year are speaking out. Anthony Zappa was sentenced Monday for the kidnapping of 17-year-old Anne Sluti. Now, his parents say they'll appeal the judge's final decision.
Zappa kidnapped Anne Sluti at a Kearney shopping mall and held her captive for six days. He finally surrendered after a 10-hour standoff with police in a remote Montana cabin. Zappa called his mother and stepfather from the cabin as police began firing. During the trial. Anne Sluti and her doctor testified that Zappa repeatedly raped her during the kidnapping. Zappa was never charged with rape. Also, Zappa's attorney says there's a question of whether Zappa received a fair trial because of his disruptive behavior in court. His mother agrees but understands what her son did was wrong. The Zappa family plans to appeal the decision. But they say they're not confident the judge will reverse the ruling.
