Surveillance video of burglary allows police quick arrest

In-home surveillance video lead police to arrest 30-year-old Martin Shokai, he’s accused of breaking into a home near 65th and Madison Wednesday morning.

The owners of the home said this isn’t the first time this has happened, and they believe Shokai is behind every incident.

“We’ve been robbed blind,” the owner said.

Shokai didn’t go easily.

He ran from the home and lead police on a chase across the Northeast Lincoln neighborhood, in some places leaving evidence behind.

“There were some clothes on the side of my driveway,” Suzanne Laws, who lives in the area said.

The commotion had the entire neighborhood on edge.

“Very just kinda intense, and confused,” neighbor Nick Stolze said.

Stolze was at a home a few doors down from the one Shokai is accused of breaking into.

At first he just saw one police officer, but said it escalated quickly.

“Sheriffs took off really fast from where they were carrying assault rifles and other big weapons,” Stolze said.

Action they said is out of the ordinary for this part of town.

“I’ve lived here for 42 years, and had one problem on my driveway, someone stole speakers out of my car back in the 70’s,” Laws said. “We’re pretty tame.”

She said despite this she’s not worried, as police quickly arrested Shokai.

“I keep doors locked and keep a watch out, and we have a neighborhood watch. We look out for each other,” Laws said. “I feel very safe.”
