Nebraska troopers arrest four after chasing stolen car on I-80
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Four people were arrested after a chase in a stolen car on Interstate 80 near Gretna, the state patrol said Sunday.
The pursuit began about 7 p.m. Friday, according to the Nebraska State Patrol, when a trooper saw a Kia Forte going over 100 mph on I-80.
The patrol said the Kia was passing other vehicles on the shoulder of the westbound lanes.
The trooper tried to pull it over, but the driver – 29-year-old Ciara Johnson of Omaha – sped off, according to the patrol.
The driver tried to exit at the interchange near Nebraska Crossing but crashed into the exit sign.
Authorities said the occupants got out of the car and ran toward the outlet mall.
The trooper soon found one of them in a business, the patrol said.
Troopers and deputies with the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office apprehended two more “a short time later,” according to the patrol.
The last suspect was spotted about an hour later from a state patrol helicopter.
The patrol said the car had been reported stolen earlier on Friday.
Authorities said they also found two handguns in the car, one of which was stolen.
One of the suspects, 26-year-old Keyon Rockwell of Omaha, tried to hide a handgun in a business at the mall, the patrol said.
Johnson was arrested on suspicion of willful reckless driving, flight to avoid arrest, driving under suspension, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and obstructing a peace officer.
Rockwell, who the patrol said was also found with methamphetamine, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, tampering with physical evidence, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and obstructing a peace officer.
Jarvell Moore, 19, of Omaha and Anthony Barnum, 28, of Lincoln were arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and obstructing a peace officer.
