LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Authorities have arrested a Lincoln man in connection to the fatal hit-and-run of a pedestrian.
Hani Hadgi, 29, was booked in Lancaster County Jail on Tuesday for leaving the scene of a serious injury accident.
Lincoln police said in a report Hadgi was behind the wheel of a vehicle that struck 41-year-old Victor Melendez around 10:30 p.m. Monday near 12th and Belmont Ave.
Despite a bystander performing CPR, Melendez was later pronounced dead at a local hospital, police said.
Through interviews and debris in the area, investigators determined Hadgi was traveling eastbound on nearby Garber Ave., hit Melendez and then continued east before hitting a street sign and becoming disabled, according to the report.
Police are expected to provide more details Wednesday morning.
