Food Bank of Lincoln hosts its 22nd annual Empty Bowl Luncheon

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Food Bank of Lincoln hosted its main fundraiser on Tuesday.

Attendees paid $25 for admission to the Empty Bowl Luncheon and received a belly full of soup and a custom ceramic bowl.

This year, Down Under Pottery Studio made 1,085 ceramic bowls for the event.

Just from the Empty Bowl event alone, 4.8 million meals have been served to those in need in the last 22 years.

“It’s coming together around food, and it’s an experience,” said Michaella Kumke, CEO of the food bank. “And that speaks right to the heart of the Food Bank of Lincoln’s work. Food is a connector.”

Hundreds of people, including the mayor, attended the event at the Embassy Suites Hotel.

The 12 local organizations listed below competed to make the best soup.

  • Asian Taste Thai Restaurant
  • Billy’s Restaurant
  • Buzzard Billy’s
