Nebraska Supreme Court to hear three cases on abortion petitions
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Nebraska Supreme Court said Tuesday that it will hear three challenges to abortion-related ballot initiatives.
Oral arguments are set for 10 a.m. Monday.
Two of the lawsuits challenge the constitutionality of the pro-abortion rights petition, which would make abortion a constitutional right in Nebraska.
Opponents argue that the initiative addresses more than one subject, in violation of the Nebraska Constitution’s requirement for ballot initiatives.

The third lawsuit challenges the anti-abortion petition on the same grounds, according to the Nebraska Examiner.
That amendment would ban abortion in Nebraska after the first trimester, with exceptions for rape, incest and medical emergency.
Last month, Secretary of State Robert Evnen said both petitions had enough valid signatures to be placed on the ballot.
If both pass, the one with the most votes will become law.
