Pound Middle School in Lincoln hoping to bolster clothing closet’s inventory

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Pound Middle School is looking to bolster its clothing closet with donations of warm clothes this winter.

The closet provides pants, shirts and coats for any students needing clothes.

Emily David, a seventh-grade teacher at the school, said she sees the need for warmer clothing in her classroom.

“It’s hearing about their story and getting to know the kid and just kind of understanding things that they don’t have at home and basic needs that we can provide,” David said.

Right now, the closet needs gently used items of all sizes.  David said being comfortable at school can be a game-changer for students.

Kadi Holmberg, a school social worker, said students may opt out of walking to school without the necessary winter weather gear.

“They may choose not to come to school and then that can be an attendance barrier for kids coming,” she said.

Pound Middle School is also accepting monetary donations and clothing from the public.  Those can be dropped off at the school’s front desk.
