Man assaulted officer while resisting arrest in north Lincoln, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man was arrested Sunday evening after assaulting an officer in north Lincoln, police say.

Around 8 p.m., officers were sent to Bar 48 near 48th Street and Baldwin Avenue after a caller reported a man was throwing punches at employees.

Police said the man, 27-year-old Elevit Benitez, started kicking a police cruiser’s back door while being taken into custody.

While being placed in leg restraints, Benitez kicked the door “extremely hard,” forcing it to quickly open and hit an officer’s head, according to LPD.

Benetiz was found to have a blood alcohol content level of 0.251 at the Lancaster County Jail.

He was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.
