LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Jay Dunlap, the former longtime leader of Union Bank & Trust, has died at 94.

Dunlap died Friday, and UBT shared the news in a blog post on Tuesday.

“We are all grateful for his leadership and for the wisdom and business acumen with which he guided the bank during his tenure,” the post said.

The native of Douglas, Nebraska, came to Lincoln after high school to attend Nebraska Wesleyan University.

He then served two years in the Navy before earning a law degree at the University of Nebraska, according to UBT.

Dunlap started his banking career at Farmers & Merchants Bank in Milford.

In 1965, his family bought Union Bank & Trust, and Dunlap became president.

He spent 20 years in that role and 50 total at UBT.

“Jay saw banking as a people-first business, which brought him great joy,” the bank said in the blog post.

Elected officials celebrated Dunlap’s impact on Nebraska.

“As a distinguished Nebraskan and servant leader, Jay Dunlap leaves behind a wonderful legacy,” Sen. Deb Fischer said in a statement. “His drive and focus elevated UBT to new heights during his tenure as President and CEO.”

Dunlap’s funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Milford United Methodist Church.
